Nieto,
in addition, authored a number of publications under the auspices of Heritage,
including Sighs And Songs of Aztlan: A Chicano Literature
Anthology (1976; "Populist Colleges—Emerging Links In
Intercultural Education, Training and Research," (a symposium
presentation by Heritage/Nieto, Society for Intercultural
Education, Training and Research, Mexico City, March 3, 1979); "El
Nuevo Canto: Los Folkloristas," an article in Somos
Magazine, Los Angeles, California (May, 1979; "The
Binational College Between Mexico and the United States," for the
Commission of the Californias and Presidents Jimmy Carter (U.S.) and
Jose Lopez Portillo (Mexico) in October, 1979; "The Aztec: Artist
and his World," in Caminos Magazine,
October, 1980; "A Proposal for a New Partnership Between Private
Enterprise in the United States and Mexico," which was presented to
U.S. Ambassador Julian Nava, Mexico City in 1981. Days of the Americas
Celebrations were festivals developed by Heritage and supported by the
Kern County Board of Supervisors to recognize the Quin-centennial
Celebration (1492-1992). Heritage also participated in the development
of a national Chicano coalition, Impacto 2000, which
held historic meetings with then Mexican President Carlos Salinas de
Gotari in 1989-1990 (above left).
Under Fire: Voices of Minority Males (image left). Dr. Nieto created a certificate program--Hispanics and Adult Education--through California State University, Bakersfield Division of Extended Studies & Regional Programs for training teachers, teacher aides, and other professionals in adult education. CSUB President Arciniega, Dean David Ost, and then Mexican Consul Gabriel Garcia-Perez, joined Dr. Nieto, in presenting graduation certificates (pictured right).
The First International Mariachi Festival in Los Angeles at Universal Studios was developed by Heritage in 1985, with eight world-reknown Mariachi groups, including Mariachi Vargas de Tecatlican, Mariachi Los Camperos, and Mariachi Los Galleros de Pedro Rey. Mexican singer Maria de Lourdes sang with Mariachi Vargas (directly below).
During August 2002, A group of 22 music students from the ChengDu Yaxiang International Cultural Exchange center in ChengDu, China, performed for a small audience at the home of Beto and Sylvia Sala. The Heritage Of America Educational and Cultural Foundation sponsored the evening (read article). |
